Còig, from Cape Breton

Tuesday July 2 Concert from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at The Royal Botanical Gardens featuring the traditional band Còig, from Cape Breton (www.coig.ca). It’s part of the Roots and Country series and takes place in the Hendrie Park gardens. the concert is free with admission after 5pm, and there’s an online special on evening admissions – the admission is discounted by 25% off the regular price if people buy tickets online (brings it down from 18.00 to 13,50 I believe-so they can come see the gardens for an hour or so, and there’s a BBQ tent with food and beverages available. There’s some seating in the tent or people can bring lawn chairs and sit around on the grass.
Còig ( “Ko-ig”) Originally put together as a promotional band of participants for a festival, these performers enjoyed playing together so much that they decided to play as the Còig ensemble whenever they can. Chrissy Crowley, from Margaree, Cape Breton has an impressive list of awards, nominations, and international appearances. Rachel Davis from Baddeck, Cape Breton spends her time switching from international festival stages to small local dances at home. Jason Roach, from Cheticamp, Cape Breton is one of the most impressive piano players you will ever hear. Darren McMullen, from Hardwoodlands, NS, is a highly sought-after multi-instrumentalist. Winner of the 2018 East Coast Music Award Roots Traditional Recording of the Year.
